Anh Do

Hosea 2:15

There I will give her back her vineyards,
    and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.
There she will respond as in the days of her youth,
    as in the day she came up out of Egypt.

Even through adversity, it is quite amazing what an individual can sustain. The thought of having to leave your country alone is a scary thought but having to leave because your country is undergoing severe communism and strife is even more overwhelming to grasp. Anh Do is a man who knows all about that in that in every detail.

Recently, my class has been asked to write a few blogs on the current epidemic of the refugee issue. As a class we are reading Anh Do’s ‘The Happiest Refugee’. This is an autobiography of the life of Anh Do, he tells us stories of how his father and uncles were nearly caught leaving the border of Vietnam on a small fishing vessel to when he won a comedic competition and fixed his little sisters wonky teeth.

One element I enjoy about Anh Do is how cheerful and happy he seems to be. Apart from the fact that he could’ve died on a boat when he was only two he always seems to have a ‘happy’ twist to every situation he finds himself in. To ever think that we ourselves do not have enough would be extremely selfish compared to those living in poverty.

I am looking forward to finish this book.
